    Some people have terrible nightmares...which they awake from in sweats. Others have had to 'live' nightmares, and one can only wonder on the 'why' of it all! As much as we can 'reenact' what it would have been like...there is no possibility of living with the same realities in their minds. For 'we' can always escape to comfort(s) when we've had enough suffering. I can only wonder at the horrors they watched and how 'any' survived. There are the 'comfortable ones' who prosper from war and then...all the poor pawns needed to act the tragedy out! Thank you Emperor Peter for the 'wee bit' and Empress Catherine for the lovely filming. Seems you have quite a population of coons on hand. And Peter, that turret shot over the pond may have ol' Fred-a-wundrin'..."I hope he shoots clear of my frogs!" "War does not determine who is right - only who is left." (Bertrand Russell). Thanks dear ones...health and blessings! :)

    I think this is what bothers me most when I see kids today crying about how oppressed they are all the while sitting in the comforts of their dorms or parents homes or wherever . It is appalling to me that one could be so tragically ignorant of the true sacrifices and suffering that so many willfully endured so that we could have these freedoms today .

    • @loren8888
      @loren8888 23 часа назад

      It's one thing to be appreciative of those who suffered for where we are. But it takes another level of maturity to understand everyone feels pain in their own way. There is always someone who has suffered more than you. It's the classic "kids today" phrase that takes control of people's mind right before they finish their sentence.

    What has always been surprising to me is that American was founded during the peaks of the Little Ice Age (1300-1815). I wonder how global warming and environmental concepts would have sold at Valley Forge or Morristown? Not very well, I think! Both my wife and I had ancestors and family at both of those locations. One of hers was Washington’s doctor, a Waldo. Those were tough folks. They had to be in order to survive as they did.

  • @johnclarke6647

    It is not surprising that politicians screw veterans and members of the armed forces, because they support more social causes and mundane concepts because these help their benevolent images. Except for Presidents, like Harry and Dwight, because they were veterans. Surprisingly, non veteran Presidents like Ronnie and Sir Donald helped the military and veterans far more than some veteran politicians, like both George’s and Jimmy. Slick Willie balanced the budget on the backs of the veterans and the military.

    This war was waged, to a very large degree, on the civilian population. It's not difficult to understand the harsh feelings held by the Patriots for the Loyalists , considering the raids by Brant and Butler's Rangers on the population of both the Mohawk and Cherry valleys. Men women and children were slaughtered, farms burnt, and fields destroyed. In the year of 1777 , in the Mohawk valley alone, there is documentation of 63 homes, 57 barns 3 grist mills, 62 barracks of wheat, and 87 hay stacks being destroyed. 235 horse, 220 cattle, 269 sheep, and 93 oxen were carried/ driven away to Canada. Much of this destruction was carried out in Fall raids, so that the people left would face a starving winter. Former neighbours, now at each other's throats. This was indeed America's first civil war

She was forced out with her young children and with not much more than the clothes on their back they somehow got to Lachine. I suspect with the help of the folks of the six nations. She spent the rest of the war at Machiche. She married Edwards Stookes there and settled near Niagara after the war. There has been uncountable times that people have committed horrors in war. Sometimes when you look a little deeper, there were contributing factors, such as the soldiers keeping them captive may not have had much food either, but often not. As for the British, they never had much of a reputation for treating even their own "allies", such as Canadian soldiers in WW1 for example, any better than the prisoners they kept. In fact I would suggest there was a chivalry with prisoners, where subjects, or worse, traitorous subjects would not merit fair treatment. On the other hand, back then things were different, and they certainly weren’t (or aren’t) the only ones who cared little for human decency. I’m just glad I don’t have to through what those people did.

      @@TheWoodlandEscape I wanted to serve when I was young, but that was around the end of Trudeau senior, and the Canadian forces were considered a bit of a joke at that time. Plus there were some personal/ physical issues that would have made it pretty hard at the time. I feel it would have done me some good…..or I would have gotten killed. Maybe it was meant to be. I feel both guilty for not doing my part, and blessed to not have been shot in the face of something. 🙂

    I believe the 2 nose cap screws are supposed to screw in between barrel and nose cap interior, not screw in from exterior of cap.

      You are spot on, it was a senior moment for sure. Having said that it turned out perfectly once file down and is not noticeable. You’re very observant, sir.

    Regardless of which side if the war they were on, all that were involved suffered in great loss and horrible conditions. Thank you for the wonderful history of both sides.

    Times have certainly changed. In most cases any way! War is tough on both sides and each side suffers through as best as they can. I am glad that as a species we have "grown" and realize that isn't the way to treat people. Now to get the individuals to see and understand that it's wrong and we will all be better for it!

    I learned about burdock root from playing the video game Red Dead Redemption 2. It's set in the late 19 century, but still is "somewhat" historically accurate.
